SHAPEC is launched — a collective voice for Cyprus’s renewable energy producers

The Cyprus Renewable Energy Producers Association (SHAPEC) is formally established as the collective voice of renewable-generation and storage operators in Cyprus.

By joint decision of renewable-energy producers and operators of electricity-storage systems, the Cyprus Renewable Energy Producers Association (SHAPEC) is formally established.

Why now

Renewable generation in Cyprus is no longer an emerging technology. It is a mature, capital-intensive part of national infrastructure, developed by independent companies and contributing steadily to the system. At the same time, the sector faces new challenges:

  • Curtailments that reduce project performance.
  • A complex framework for grid connection and market access.
  • Delays in integrating electricity-storage systems (ESS).
  • The need for a functioning competitive wholesale market.

Producers need one shared, evidence-based voice addressing government, CERA, the TSO, the DSO, investors, the media and society.

Who we represent

SHAPEC is open to every renewable-generation category operating or under development in Cyprus:

  • Solar (PV) parks
  • Wind projects
  • Biomass & biogas
  • Hybrid generation with storage
  • Standalone electricity-storage systems (ESS)
  • Project developers

Purpose

“To further promote renewable energy systems (RES) and electricity-storage systems (ESS) as sources and methods that support ecology, sustainable and green development, and the environmental needs of the country, while serving at the same time the need to produce and supply electricity.”

Where we stand

SHAPEC will pursue six policy priorities:

  1. Fair grid access — transparent processes, equal treatment.
  2. Tackling curtailments — through storage, demand management, grid upgrades.
  3. Integrating storage — a clear framework, fair remuneration, equal access.
  4. Electricity-market reform — competitive wholesale, credible price signals.
  5. System adequacy — long-term planning of generation, storage and grid.
  6. A Cyprus-paced transition — practical, realistic, socially acceptable.

Next steps

In the coming weeks SHAPEC will convene its first General Assembly, publish its statutes and file its first policy positions on current consultations.
